POKOTABI / PLACES WORTH A DETOUR
Winebox Barco
A platter of 7 fish, vegetable and meat appetisers, tender liver confit and seasonal pasta. The by-the-glass wine selection changes monthly, with 8–10 wines; order 3 or more drinks to get set pricing.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Not sure where to start? The Assorted Appetiser Platter brings together 7 fish, vegetable and meat appetisers on one plate. One diner visiting Winebox Barco on their own enjoyed the platter and had 2 glasses of wine. Another tempting choice is the popular “Forbidden Liver Confit”. The menu describes its texture as tender and meltingly soft, and one customer who ordered it praised its softness, lack of gaminess and just-right saltiness. Some diners have found the portion large for one person, so it may be better suited to sharing among a group.
The by-the-glass wine list changes monthly and features around 8–10 options, all priced at 800 yen. One diner who usually drinks red wine tried sparkling and red, then left the choices of white and rosé to the staff; the experience broadened their tastes. Order 3 or more drinks and you can mix and match wine, beer, cocktails and other options in a set, with each drink from the 6th onward priced at 1 yen for 600 drinks. It is a handy way to sample a few different drinks. To round out the meal, there are around 3 pastas on offer at any one time, made with seasonal seafood, vegetables or meat. They are presented as dishes to enjoy with wine rather than as a substantial meal in themselves. A diner who ordered the bacon and mushroom Gorgonzola pasta enjoyed its rich flavour.
Alongside a few glasses with appetisers or pasta, there is also the option of choosing a bottle. At the time the menu was listed, there were more than 60 bottles, starting at 3,000 yen, with most orders falling in the 4,000–6,000 yen range. The restaurant has counter seating and is described as suitable for solo dining, making it an easy choice for a small group keen to take their time pairing food and wine.
